3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 is a vibration and noise reduction material provided in sheets for excellent per-pound cost ratios. Open cell polyurethane foam with an aluminum-urethane constraining layer absorbs panel vibration and dissipates it to negligible heat, reducing resonant noise and fatigue. Pressure-sensitive adhesive and easy-release liner make for fast, smooth application.

Additional Information

N/A Sound and Vibration Damping in Sheet Form
Sized for applications with larger damping areas, our 3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 attenuates and reduces the resonant sound and vibration in thin sheet metal, plastic panels and support structures. It features a 250 mil open cell polyurethane foam with a 3.0 mil aluminum-urethane backing. It applies quickly and easily to the vibrating component by a strong, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive - only finger pressure is required to establish a lasting bond. The foam absorbs the vibration, or "strain energy," and together with the backing dissipates it into a small amount of heat. This function reduces continuous vibration through attenuation, which reduces noise and decreases metal fatigue during everyday wear. It also limits vibration caused by impact, helping components remain strong and stable over time. Meets F.A.R. 25.853(b).

Recommended Applications
  • Larger-scale jobs where cost-per-pound ratios are important
  • Reduce resonant noise, vibration and fatigue in metal panels and support structures
  • Applications requiring flame resistance, thermal conductance or resistance to low temps
  • Chutes, conveyors, bins, metal shop boxes and tables where metal contact causes vibration
  • General noise reduction
  • Die cutting aluminum foil parts for aerospace applications - F.A.R. 25.853(b)
3M™ Damping Aluminum Foam Sheet 4014 provides good thermal insulation, and is tested to perform at Temperatures as low as -94ºF (-70ºC). It also delivers excellent resistance to moisture, aging and fatigue.
